Saint Teresa of Avila
This iconic piece is an homage to Kate’s Mother-in-law Teresa Koh, Gok Chee.
She was a Paranakan with a great devotion to Catholicism. This painting shows the icons and imagery of her Pernanakan and Singaporean culture.
The decorated Kebaya, the silver jewelry, the kuih and pineapple tarts (both typical peranakan cakes). The quotation and the crown evoke the devotion to God.
